Our Veterans’ Day celebration began on Thursday, November 10, with a rousing celebration by Vitas Hospice. Each of our veterans received a certificate of appreciation for their service, and a big cake was shared by all. Bill Welser of the Space Coast Honor Flight spoke about upcoming opportunities for World War II and Korean War vets to take a one-day trip to Washington, D.C.
Veterans’ Day itself was greeted with a visit from our friends, Team Grace, whose members created beautiful Veterans’ Day cards for the residents. Lunch was a delicious rib barbecue, enjoyed by one and all! The afternoon brought a patriotic musical concert by Angie Parks, one of our residents’ favorites. It doesn’t get any better than this in Melbourne.
Twenty-five gorgeous Melbourne based Corvettes stopped by Saturday afternoon, courtesy of the Space Coast Corvette Club. Our residents got to tour models from a pristine 1960 turquoise beauty to a brand new 2016 burgundy ride! The members of the club were proud to show off their pride and joys, and the residents were thrilled to see these terrific autos.
General Gorski and Master Sergeant Joseph from AFTAC at Patrick AFB visited with our residents at lunch on Sunday. They met with several of the veterans and had great discussions. MSgt. Joseph brought his children who enjoyed talking with the folks as well. Former and current military shared stories and broke bread, which made for a perfect end to a successful Veterans’ Day celebration.
Many thanks to all of Melbourne’s best who served our nation and our residents. These folks made Veterans’ Day special for our residents, and to the staff and volunteers who assisted in so many ways!
